CE artists featured in Sophia Yau-Weeks’ new music video

Sophia Yau-Weeks features CE artists’ animations in her new music video for “Platonic Love Song” which releases on March 3, 2023.

Sophia Yau-Weeks was Creativity Explored’s 2021-2022 Art & Business Development AmeriCorps VISTA. Everyone at CE couldn’t have been happier to have her back to work on this collaborative project with CE artists. Read more about Sophia’s year as an AmeriCorps VISTA at Creativity Explored ▸

Besides serving as a VISTA, Sophia is an artist and singer-songwriter born and raised in Oakland, CA on Ohlone Land. She has released two covers and two original songs, and is currently anticipating the release of her debut 3-song EP "Without You" which was produced with Maryam Qudus (Toro y Moi, SASMI, Spacemoth, Alanis Morissette) at Tiny Telephone Recording Studio in Oakland.

Sophia developed the music video for “Platonic Love Song” in collaboration with several CE artists, as well as CE teaching artists. Sophia was inspired by the love and friendship between staff and artists at CE, and knew our artists would be a perfect fit for "Platonic Love Song.”

Working at CE, I felt so inspired by how uninhibited and honest the artists were in their practice. As an artist myself, it really motivated me to keep flexing my artistic muscles. There was so much joy in their art, and “Platonic Love Song” is the first thing I have written that puts joy at the forefront, which I think a lot of CE artists do when creating. I always knew that I would love to incorporate CE artists into a project of mine and an animated music video felt like the perfect fit. This song is about celebrating friendship, and friendships truly thrive at CE - amongst artists and staff alike - so I thought it would be a lovely collaboration.
