Disability People and Teaching Aides (Detail) by Kate Thompson © 2016 Creativity Explored Licensing, LLC, mixed media on paper, 22 x 30 inches

Artwork by eight Creativity Explored artists featured in Art and Advocacy, an exhibition at the California Museum in Sacramento.

Peter CordovaJoseph "JD" GreenCamille HolvoetJohn Iwaszewicz, Gordon ShepardKate ThompsonGerald Wiggins, and Marilyn Wong each have artwork included in Art and Advocacy: To Be Developmentally Disabled (TBD) at the California Museum.

The exhibit features original works by California artists with developmental disabilities. It is presented in partnership with the California Disability Community Action Network (CDCAN) and Choices Person Centered Services with the California Person Centered Advocacy Partnership, Claraty Arts, and The Art of Autism.

The exhibit challenges assumptions about people with developmental disabilities. It coincides with the 50th anniversary year celebrations marking the establishment of the community-based system of services for people with developmental disabilities in California that resulted in the landmark 1969 legislation that is now known as the "Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Services Act."
