Douglas Sheran

b. 1941, California CE artist from 1984 - 2008

Douglas Sheran renders figures and animals in pencil, ink, pastels, acrylics, watercolors, and ceramics, capturing the strength and essence of the subject rather than the minute detail. Playing with the human form in gestural but subdued lines, Sheran created a series of works in which he painted with acrylic paint over female figures found in the pages of magazines.

Known for creating artists books in which he either paints over the pages of a book or binds his own drawings into book form, Sheran makes a banjo type song as he works. His song was captured in an animated work that combines his ink drawings with his melodic hum.
