The San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is hosting Dogs and Cats are Our Friends, a solo exhibition of Creativity Explored artist Yukari Sakura’s work at the Leanne B. Roberts Animal Care Center Gallery.

An animal lover her entire life, Sakura express her concerns about the well-being of dogs and cats, climate change, endangered species, and good nutrition for everyone through her paintings.

The exhibition series is based on photographs that the artist took on a visit to the San Francisco SPCA. Sakura also relied on memory and imagination to create paintings that depict dogs and cats in “elegant backgrounds.”

Sakura hopes that these paintings will help to enlighten others to the plight of animals in need. She explains about Ariadne (pictured at left), "It's a Fox Terrier. This painting shows how dogs need more love. And also it shows how dogs are being loved by people. This painting means that there should be no more mistreating of animals."
