Lakeshia King

b. 1978 CE artist since 2007

Lakeshia King has a very specific vision for her artworks, which are a combination of abstract forms and natural subjects such as ducks and flowers. She sometimes uses markers, but often creates mixed-media collages: dense layers of marker, paper, and painted shapes outlined in thick black acrylic.

King’s work often toys with perspective, with numerous scenes occurring within the same composition, like a series of memories from a single day. Smiling faces and geometric shapes combine to form an expansive landscape. King’s drawings are often characterized by multicolor facets that could imply dimensionality or texture. Her use of color is soothing and fanciful.

King creates her artwork slowly and methodically, listening to soft music on her headphones while she works.
