Jesus Huezo (b. 1993, San Francisco) is an illustrator with deep roots in the Bay Area. He finds much of his inspiration in his Mexican heritage and the visual culture of the Mission District, where he grew up and continues to live and work. He is also inspired by anime, comics, and pop culture, particularly characters from Disney Infinity. Huezo has been an artist at Creativity Explored for over a decade, consistently representing his heritage through his artistic practice.
In his signature colored pencil drawings on paper, Huezo’s style is defined by a relaxed take on iconic imagery. Huezo’s artistic process is just as important as the finished work itself–his research process focuses heavily on studying reference imagery and familiarizing himself with his subjects, then letting his knowledge flow onto the page in a contemporary visual language.
Huezo has done many memorable installations, including a series of paper mache foods in 2016 in the Creativity Explored Gallery. Inspired by the paleta carts he would see in the Mission District, Huezo built his own paleta cart for the installation Of Here From There at SFAI Fort Mason in 2020. Over the past decade, Jesus Huezo has been featured in over a dozen group exhibitions, including at the Museum of Craft and Design and the Oakland Museum of California.
