Sophia Yau-Weeks (she/they) is an artist, musician, and community organizer from Oakland, CA (unceded Ohlone territory). Sophia graduated from UC Berkeley in 2020 with a BA in Psychology and Disability Studies. During Covid-19 lockdown, Sophia began to utilize art as a tool for mutual aid fundraising and grassroots community organizing, which fortified her desire to work at the intersection of art, access, and social justice.
Since then, Sophia has served as an AmeriCorps VISTA at CE with a focus on art partnerships, been a caregiver for disabled children and adults, worked two iterations of the London Film Festival as their Accessibility Coordinator, nannied some precious infants and toddlers, waited tables at a tapas bar, welcomed filmmakers as the Guest Office Coordinator at SFFILM Festival, gigged as a working musician, and returned to CE as a Substitute Teaching Artist before landing her current role.
Outside of work, Sophia is an indie-folk singer-songwriter, avid knitter/crocheter, and zealous trinket collector. In addition, Sophia has spent the past several years advocating for/organizing around Covid-safety and illness prevention. With lived experience with Long Covid, Sophia is passionate about bringing to light the ongoing impacts of Covid-19 and its connections to disability justice, public health, and accessibility.
