Sophia Yau-Weeks
By Valerie Jenkins
Youth and Community Program Coordinator
Staff Member since 2025
Sophia Yau-Weeks first got involved with the disability community when she was 16, working as a counselor at Camp Krem, a camp for people with disabilities based in Santa Cruz. She loved it so much that for many years now, she has been a camp counselor and caregiver throughout the greater Bay Area.
Her passion for working with the disability community led her to receive a BA in Psychology with a minor in Disability Studies from UC Berkeley, from which she just graduated. At CE, Sophia focuses on developing and strengthening partnerships with community members, stakeholders, businesses, corporations, and other arts organizations in an effort to support CE artists with developmental disabilities.
In her free time, Sophia organizes open mics, craft nights, and art market fundraisers for grassroots organizations and mutual aid causes throughout the greater Bay Area with an art collective she started called Community Makes. Whether she’s singing, songwriting, and recording music, crocheting goods for her small business “Chinese Grandpa,” or making mixed media collages for a new zine, you can always find Sophia doing something creative.
