Juan Carlos Cancino’s Board Super Power!

Creativity Explored has 7 new Board members! This spring and summer we’ll be highlighting the super powers and experience they’re bringing to Creativity Explored to help us reach our goals. Meet the sixth in our series: Juan Carlos Cancino!

About Juan Carlos: Juan Carlos Cancino is a lawyer working in local government and living in San Francisco. He is currently Deputy Assessor for San Francisco where he manages operations. He previously held several roles for the city and has been privileged to support everything from the city's small business COVID-19 response to neighborhood development to large-scale public art. Prior to working for San Francisco, he practiced as a Staff Attorney at California Rural Legal Assistance supporting community-led development in disadvantaged unincorporated communities, mainly in the San Joaquin Valley, and was a lecturer on environmental justice at Berkeley Law School. Outside of work, his interest and energy for people and places have largely focused on community building and urban agriculture in the Portola neighborhood. He was born and raised in San Francisco and earned his B.A. and J.D. at Stanford.

Why Juan Carlos Joined CE’s Board: “I joined CE's Board because it offers an opportunity to back their beautiful community and compelling mission and values—their commitment to a more open, intelligent and inclusive conception of human potential, to community and place, and to the fundamental importance of creative expression. San Francisco wouldn't be the city it is (and that I love) without enlightened and enduring institutions like CE.”

Juan Carlos’ Favorite CE Artist: “I'm still very new to CE and have only begun to scratch the surface in terms of getting to know the artists and their work, so it's impossible to pick favorites yet. But I am really feeling the work of Peter Cordova.”

Juan Carlos’ Super Power: Juan Carlos’ years of work in local government will help CE forge stronger, and even better partnerships with government agencies and officials.
