Insidesource features CE artwork in San Carlos and San Francisco showrooms

Artwork by Kevin Roach, titled Magic Patch installed in Insidesource San Francisco office

Creativity Explored worked with Insidesource to fill their offices with beautiful and dynamic art by Creativity Explored artists. This partnership not only celebrates the artists’ contributions but also reflects a shared commitment to sustainability. We are excited to share the results!

Insidesource purchased artwork by Kevin Roach, Ian Adams, and Steven Liu to enhance their custom showroom spaces in both their San Francisco and San Carlos locations.

The partnership began at an IIDA conference, where IIDA had chosen Creativity Explored as their community nonprofit partner for the event. Upon our introduction to the team at Insidesource, it became evident this project would be a perfect fit for Creativity Explored’s Art Services team. Together the two teams worked together to curate works that fit the aesthetic and company culture of Insidesource, resulting in a beautiful collection of natural and cohesive works by Creativity Explored artists.

The inspiration drawing by Kevin Roach for the tapestry project

One of the standout highlights of this collaboration is the tapestry designed by CE artist Kevin Roach in collaboration with seamstress, Sue Green at Redo Renew. Utilizing donated bolts of fabric from Insidesource, Roach masterfully created a one-of-a-kind textile piece that seamlessly blends his skills in color, embroidery and design.

Kevin Roach is a native San Franciscan, who has been an artist at CE since 2004. A meticulous artist, Kevin carefully plans each piece before he begins, and is extremely focused. One of his most popular motifs is his eyeballs, which appear in many of his two-dimensional works. In this project, Kevin utilized his skills in textile and design to create a dynamic and abstract textile tapestry. Insidesource’s fabric set the color palette and Kevin created a work that was loosely based on a past drawing he had done. Kevin first crafted the idea for the design, then he cut out all of the fabric pieces, then carefully layered and placed them. After which, Sue Green at Redo Renew beautifully stitched the layers together, finishing the tapestry.

It was a fun, yet challenging project. Kevin had never created such a large work before, and we [Creativity Explored] have not done many commissioned custom textiles. We enjoyed the collaborative process which took many skilled artisans to complete. And, we are thrilled with the beautiful, sustainable results.

We spoke with Kevin about his artistic practice and his process collaborating with Insidesource.  He reminisced about his initial interest in textiles, saying, “my mother was a fashion designer and my grandmother was a seamstress for 65 years. I learned all that embroidery work from them. I learned that at 7 years old.” Kevin also told us that, “the favorite part was going to get the sewing done [after pinning all of the pieces down]. Ann took me in the car, I had a ball. It was getting formed, getting done. I met the sewer - she has a beautiful machine, a heavy machine - she was wonderful.”

We are so grateful for this collaboration with Insidesource, and are overjoyed to see CE artwork adorn the walls of these spaces.

I think it really adds to the building - they are really nice people and a nice place.
