Budget cuts at City College affect classes for disabled students

For over 30 years, teaching artist and City College San Francisco instructor Carole Fitzgerald has offered Creativity Explored artists the opportunity to participate in semester-long Surface and Fashion Design courses in our studio.

Our long partnership with CCSF Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) is responsible for many of the original fashion- and fiber-based artwork created by CE artists over the years. Countless CE artists have benefitted from learning skills like sewing, pattern design, embroidery, dyeing, and much more.

A current budget proposal would cut the budget of the DSPS department by roughly 40% – jeopardizing accessible programs for disabled students at CCSF for years to come.

We have until May 15 to prevent the loss of educational opportunities for 31,000 students and save 65% of CCSF’s faculty from layoffs. We need your help to communicate our concerns about these cuts to the CCSF Board of Trustees and San Francisco city supervisors.

Supervisors Mar and Ronen have introduced an initiative to expand the Workforce Education Recovery Fund (WERF) to support CCSF in this time of need.

Send a letter of support for WERF to your district supervisor. We especially need the support and leadership of District 6 and District 10 Supervisors: Budget Chair Haney and President Walton.

Are you a student, alum, faculty, or staff member at CCSF? Record your 90-second CCSF success story and make your voice heard.

You are also encouraged to contact CCSF leadership and City officials directly:
