Andrew Li has been selected as one of the 884 artists included in The de Young Open 2023! This year, there were 7,766 submissions, making this a great honor.

“The de Young Open represents a significant paradigm shift from historical perceptions of museums as gatekeepers of art — often imported nationally or internationally — to a more democratic model in which museums foreground the voices and visions of local artists.”

Timothy Anglin Burgard, the originator and curator of the triennial.

The second triennial of this juried community art exhibition will feature submissions by artists from all nine Bay Area counties installed salon style. The de Young Open 2023 opens to the public on September 30, 2023, and runs through January 7, 2024. Entry is free on Saturdays and the opening day!

About Andrew Li:

A true product of his native Shanghai, Andrew Li's most frequent subjects are cities in motion. From Li's quick-handed and deliberate process emerges a representation of how the eye reads the urban environment – how it latches onto certain details and summarizes others, making sense of all the dizzying activity on a busy street.

Li's illustrations were licensed for use in the San Francisco Muni Accessible Services Guide. In 2018, Li completed a 19-foot mural at the new Salesforce Transit Center as part of an epic mural project organized by ArtSpan. Additionally, Li's work is included in the in Art+Action's 2020 COME TO YOUR CENSUS campaign and national toolkit.

VIDA produced a curated collection of animated scarves, totes, clutches, phone cases, and glass trays using Li's detailed drawings.
