CE’s Gallery Associate, On Call, will focus on customer service and support direct art sales during onsite and offsite exhibitions, pop-ups, and other events. The Gallery Associate, On Call, will maintain a safe/clean sales space and complete other assigned tasks related to our gallery and external sales. The position is on-call, with variable hours up to 10 hours a month, scheduled between Thursday–Sunday, with the possibility of additional hours during busier seasons.

The Gallery Associate, On Call, will provide exceptional customer service using our POS system and other sales modes, oversee scheduled volunteers, and perform tasks as assigned related to sales and retail operations. The Gallery Associate, On Cal, also works collaboratively with the Gallery and Exhibitions Team and other CE staff as needed.

  • Classification: Part-time, non-exempt, on-site position, hours variable, up to 10 hrs/month 

  • Compensation: $23 per hour

  • Location: Principally based at Creativity Explored, 3245 16th Street in San Francisco, with frequent off-site work

  • Reports to: Art Sales and Services Coordinator

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide extraordinary customer service

  • Operate, open, and close the gallery according to established procedures

  • Support gallery openings and events (including assisting at off-site events as needed), i.e., set-up,

  • purchase lines, receipts, sales, closing, etc.

  • Ensure the professional appearance of the gallery

  • Assist the Gallery Manager in pricing and filing art, and conduct product inventory as needed

  • Provide general administrative and clerical support, including artwork database updates

  • Assist Creativity Explored staff with exhibitions, retail activities, and special projects

  • Other duties as assigned

The Gallery Associate, On Call will comply with established Creativity Explored policies and practices.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • A strong connection with CE’s mission, including the ability to advocate for CE artists’ self-identified needs

  • One year of gallery or retail experience required, fine arts education preferred

  • Team orientation, with demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people

  • Outstanding interpersonal and verbal communication skills

  • Strong data and project management skills

  • Working knowledge of basic office practices and procedures, including proficiency in the use of Google Suite

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain excellent customer relations skills at all times

  • Ability to work with minimal direction, use good judgment, provide attention to detail, and maintain strict confidentiality

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Complete and maintain CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (initial certification to be completed within 30 days of date of hire)

  • Workplace Harassment Training

  • Complete Creativity Explored staff training pertinent to position's job responsibilities as assigned


OTHER INFORMATION

The Gallery Associate, On Call is a non-exempt, part-time position. Most work takes place Thursday-Sunday. Offers are subject to satisfactory Criminal Records Clearance and proof of negative TB test results completed within the last year. Creativity Explored will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the California Fair Chance Act.
