Delia Liu

b. 1993 CE artist since 2015

Animal portraits are the focus of Delia Liu’s art practice. In a series of small watercolors, Liu paints a variety of creatures, from cows, crocodile eggs, and baby elephants to dolphins, and even a newborn dholak. In addition to watercolor, Liu works with woodless colored pencils on either black or white paper, drawing striking renderings of animals like horses, dogs, and cats. Liu often uses encyclopedic books as source imagery, evident in her neat grids of fish and flags.

In 2016, Liu began working with CE teaching artist Michael Napper on an art journal. Using various art methods like painting, collage, photography, mixed media, and rudimentary printmaking techniques, Liu explored how the book can be a sculptural form. She continues to keep art journals, documenting various interests and creating mail art to stay in touch with her friends and teachers.
