As part of San Francisco Design Week, Creativity Explored and The New Company invite you to join us for a unique panel discussion about inspirational role of CE art and the design process. This past year, The New Company created a brand identity for Art Changes Lives 2019 inspired by artwork featured at the event.

Description:
San Francisco has a legacy of embracing the weird and unexpected, especially when it comes to art and design. From the hippie movement to the vibrant history of public and outsider art, SF is often synonymous with the experimental and eccentric. Join us as we discuss and explore the inspirational process of working with the unknown.

Motivated by the growing partnership between Creativity Explored and The New Company, the event will examine how art produced by artists with developmental disabilities inspires the design and creative process.

From exploring non-traditional art as a source for creative ideation to incorporating CE art in branding, identity, and product design, the discussion will present our shared perspective on welcoming the unconventional as a means of pushing the global aesthetic forward.

Panelists:
Ann Kappes (Director of Licensing, Creativity Explored)
Matt Luckhurst (Founder & Executive Creative Director, The New Company)
Will Geddes (Design Director, The New Company)

Moderator:
Tiffani Jones Brown (Editorial Director, Dropbox)

Tickets: $10 each
Available via Eventbrite here

About SF Design Week:
SFDW is an essential week-long city-wide festival that showcases the unique intersection of ideas, design, business & entrepreneurism that makes the Bay Area the birthplace of the future.

Now a global phenomenon, San Francisco’s international success is born from a historically free-spirited entrepreneurialism, coupled with the imaginative vision of contemporary design and state-of-the-art technology. Pioneers of new ways of looking at the world, nimble Bay Area start-ups are now among the world’s most influential design-led companies, producing products, services and experiences that profoundly influence the daily lives of billions of people globally.

Through studio tours and events, SFDW celebrates this spirit of newness by providing unique access to exhibitions and conversations with the designers who are shaping the future — from architecture to fashion, product design to digital services, and everything in between.

We are excited to announce Patterns in Practice, a new exhibition at San Francisco Zen Center curated by board member Arianna Orland. Join us for the public reception on Friday, June 21!

Repetition and pattern, pattern and repetition. Why do we make things, and why does it matter? A question for the ages. What happens in the making when we let go of our formal expectations? Are we then making to communicate something poetic, something greater, something beyond words and something deeply human?

Patterns in Practice explores work from a variety of Creativity Explored artists where mark making is essential to their creative practice. Untethered to the trappings of representational form, this curation asks us to transcend expectation and explore what lies beyond. The exhibition features original paintings, drawings and fiber art by nine CE artists: Charles CruzElana CooperLinda DavenportRoland RecordKevin RoachHung Kei ShiuAna Maria VidalonMarilyn Wong, and Doris Yen.
The exhibition will be on view and open to the public from June 6 through June 30 in the main reception area of the Zen Center. Please see the SF Zen Center's website for hours.

In celebration of Bitchin’, our new exhibition for humans and dogs, Creativity Explored is hosting Raise The Woof Adoption Days at the CE studio and gallery. Join us and meet dogs from Family Dog Rescue looking for forever homes. Enjoy the day with CE artists as you learn about the work being done at Family Dog Rescue to support shelter and rescue pets. If you’re looking for a new best friend, drop by and sniff around for loving dogs currently available for adoption.

Stick around to check out Bitchin’ in the CE gallery! We will have free dog treats for canine art patrons and limited-edition products featuring dog-themed artwork from the show. During the exhibition, we’ll be offering the opportunity to commission original portraits of your pet by a variety of CE artists. Bring your pup and we can help you snap a portrait for an original painting or drawing!
