For the Birds is a group exhibition of all things feathered and flying, through the eyes of some 20 Creativity Explored artists. With artworks as varied as the winged creatures they represent, the exhibition encompasses a variety of media, including watercolor, oil pastel, ink, charcoal, ceramics, wood sculptures, and papier-mâché.
Many artworks were inspired by “bird watching” from Telegraph Hill and its famous parrots to the seagulls of the Maritime Museum. Other artworks reflect a fascination with exotic birds such as flamingos, penguins, and hummingbirds.
Artist Pam Berry, a Creativity Explored Visual Arts Instructor and the exhibition’s co-curator (with Visual Arts Instructor Lani Asher), sees the show as “a way to raise awareness about our shared habitat with birds.” “Perhaps no other animal has so permeated our culture – from art and folklore to spiritual life and culinary heritage,” says Berry.
Be sure to catch this first group show of 2013, featuring some of Creativity Explored’s most talented and popular artists.
