Peter DeLira
b. 1992 ∙ CE artist since 2014
Peter DeLira (b. 1992) has been a practicing artist at Creativity Explored for over a decade. He started making art as early as three years old, fascinated by cutting paper and then making “Escher-like figurines of lizards,” according to his father David. DeLira’s signature style is often inspired by the natural world, including birds, insects, cats, and even dinosaurs.
DeLira is known for working “furiously fast.” Precise yet playful, his work often emphasizes the organic forms that make up his subjects by using a variety of stylistic techniques. In one common technique, his subjects are depicted in profile in 8-bit-style grids of color. In another favorite style, Delira flattens his subjects and fills them with perfectly aligned streaks of color. No matter his subject, DeLira’s definitive shapes and steady linework are a mainstay of his practice. His portraits are often rich in color and personality. An energetic presence in the studio, DeLira’s work is a mirror of his vibrant personality.
Peter DeLira has been a part of a number of group exhibitions across San Francisco since 2016, his first being “Ripe” at Creativity Explored. He was most recently included in the exhibition “Become Like Life Golden,” which was on view at Recology in 2023.
