Creativity Explored artists' Pass Away altar on view as part of the San Francisco Symphony's annual Dia de los Muertos community celebration.

If you are going to a performance at the San Francisco Symphony before November 6, 2016, plan to arrive early and check out the amazing Día de los Muertos altars, including Creativity Explored's contribution, Pass Away.

Twenty CE artists had a broad range of responses to the Dia de los Muertos tradition. Some were familiar with the celebration's common motifs and chose to employ traditional imagery like skeletons and marigolds. Other artists explored the notion of death and dying on a more personal level, making work that paid tribute to lost loved ones and cherished pets. The resulting installation is a synthesis of these ideas into an altar that honors, remembers, and celebrates our dead.

Participating Creativity Explored artists include: Charlie Barthelet, Laron Bickerstaff, Peter DeLira, Allura Fong, Christina Marie Fong, Jay Herndon, Jesus Huezo, Makeya Kaiser, Kaocrew “Yah” Kakabutra, Tonya Lewis, Steven Liu, Lien Nguyen, Gabriel Maduena, John Patrick McKenzie, Edita Membreno, Jason Monzon, Sara O'Sullivan, Thomas Pringle, Yakuri Sakura, and Richard Wright.

The celebration culminates with the San Francisco Symphony’s 9th Annual Día de los Muertos Community Concert on November 6. Click here for more information.
