Yukari Sakura and Daniel Green are featured in an exhibition at The Gallery at Ace Hotel New York.

Artworks by Yukari Sakura and Daniel Green are included in TV Dinner, an exhibition at The Gallery at Ace Hotel New York, October 1 through October 31, 2015. A two-person exhibition curated by Anna Schechter and Makiko Wholey in collaboration with Creativity Explored, TV Dinner explores the role of media, spectacle, and popular culture.

On first glance, Green's work appears to be filled with carefully copied schedules and lists, perhaps extracted from TV Guide or similar publication. On closer inspection, personal references to individuals, holidays, and dates begin to surface, offering viewers an intimate look into Green's personal life and thoughts. Painter Yukari Sakura employs commercial aesthetics to depict food-as-fantasy, to memorialize individuals whose deaths took on an element of spectacle, with works like The World Trade Center Ice Cream Cake, blurs the line between the themes, shrouding sadness with comforting colors and textures.

About the Curators

TV Dinner coorganizers Anna Schechter and Makiko Wholey made their joint curatorial debut in 2014 with Any Colour You Like (Weird Days, Brooklyn) in collaboration with Pure Vision Arts. Schechter works at YAI, a not-for-profit organization where she is involved with socialization, recreation, and creative arts programming for adults with developmental disabilities. Wholey works as a freelance art writer and creative producer.
