The dizzying array of intense, vivid colors and swirling abstract patterns in the psychedelic-style art that will be on view in Spectrum pays homage to the psychedelic art of the 1960's. In the context of this exhibition, which showcases work that addresses the idea of the "altered" or "revealed" mind the moniker psychedelic includes broad interpretations ranging from op-art paintings to obsessive drawings to historical references to the 60's and 70's cultural revolution. In addition it will encompass responses to the current psychedelic resurgence in visual and musical practice around the world.

According to Frank Callozzo, artist, Creativity Explored art instructor, and curator of the exhibition, the intention ofSpecturm is to expand what is embraced by the imagination and what serves as the basis of artistic practice. The show was conceived in the spirit of William Blake’s statement from The Marriage of Heaven and Hell: “If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite.” Says Callozzo, “Spectrum is also a means to recognize San Francisco’s rich heritage of psychedelic art and music. Not only do we have a tremendous legacy of psychedelic artistic expression, but we are also in the vanguard of the current psychedelic art movement. With this show at Creativity Explored, I hope to delve into the spectrum of the ways in which reality can be experienced.”
