In a tumultuous political climate, the voices of artists on the margin continue to provide unique perspectives and insight into navigating the distinctly American tensions of race, class, nationality, and identity.

Local artists, curators, and brothers Victor Cartagena and Carlos Cartagena center the voices of CE artists Joseph "JD" Green and John Iwaszewicz in this new exhibition to draw upon their unique creative processes to explore, connect, and share their visions of resistance.

"It’s been a learning experience for me following the creative dialogue of Joseph Green and John Iwaszewicz, seeing them work side-by-side.  Their collaboration has shed light on how each one expresses concerns and reflections on life and society," Teaching Artist and curator Victor Cartagena explains, speaking about the process behind the exhibition. "The result is novel and unexpected and may challenge traditional expectations when it comes to art produced by Creativity Explored artists."

Fragments + Resistance features new paintings, drawings, multimedia sculptures and installations by Green and Iwaszewicz that challenge viewers to elevate and include the voices of artists with developmental disabilities in the critical discussions about America today and into the future.

CE artist intern Joseph "JD" Green leads a watercolor activity at a Linkedin Pop-up.

To help provide support for Bay Area nonprofits, Linkedin has launched InCommon, a space in their San Francisco office dedicated for local nonprofits to use for events, meetings, and programs at no cost! Linkedin is featuring artwork from local nonprofit, Creativity Explored, with all of the proceeds going to their artists. This space serves as a vital connection point for Bay Area nonprofits to achieve their missions and better connect with Linkedin and their Social Impact programs.

We are thrilled to be partnering with Linkedin as a resident in their new InCommon Community Engagement Space. During our residency, we will be hosting a series of exhibitions of CE artwork for Linkedin staff, visitors, and the nonprofits that will utilize the space for meetings and special events.

We are excited to host a series of free artmaking pop-ups for the general public, giving you the chance to step into a satellite CE studio and create art with CE artists and teachers!

Join us for our September artmaking pop-up on Wednesday, September 18starting at 12:00 pm. Drop in to participate in an artmaking activity lead by CE artists Joseph "JD" Green and Gerald Wiggins with Visual Arts Instructor Enrique Quintero. The artmaking station will run until 1:45 pm with a gallery pop-up shop featuring original art and products continuing until 5:00 pm. All ages and experience levels are welcome!

While you're there enjoy an exhibition featuring the Steele Collection, CE's permanent collection of exceptional work, currently on view in the space. The space is currently open to the public during events only, so don't miss your chance to check out this incredible collaboration!
