Join us for a one-of-a-kind visual journal workshop led by artist and instructor, Michael Napper.
Weaving together journaling and art, this class offers participants a unique opportunity to explore a variety of techniques in drawing, painting, printing, collaging, and more. This three-month workshop will leave you with a new understanding of the intersections between imagination and making, sharpened observational skills, and a newfound love of journaling. Plus, studio artists Gerald Wiggins and Joseph “JD” Green will assist via their artistic expertise.
No prior knowledge or skills required (ages 15 and over).
The Art of Visual Journaling

Fees and Materials
$150 full 6-session course; $30 drop-in per class
- Must bring your own journal or sketchbook, no smaller than 8 x 10 inches. Heavy paper recommended. (Journals also can be purchased at Creativity Explored.)

You will walk away with:
A sketchbook of your very own drawings, collages, written and drawn observations
A collaborative experience with artists who have developmental disabilities
A set of new art making skills including: printing, painting, stamp-making, and monotyping
New ways of observing and recording the world including particular methods of sketching, writing, data collecting, and collaging
A deeper exploration of one’s own artistic abilities

Class 3 (Saturday March 4, 2017): Interview with a Younger & Older Self
Class 4 (Saturday April 15, 2017): Collage, A Walk through the Mission, and A Visit by a Book Artist
Class 5 (Saturday April 29, 2017): Book as Sculptural Objects and Self Publishing
Michael Napper is a visual artist, painter, and photographer. He has been making visual journals for the past 35 years. Utilizing a variety of techniques, Napper melds together an assortment of diverse mediums and ideas into his creative journaling practice. Through his process-based work, Napper finds the freedom to experiment without fear, examines the personal and the past, connects disciplines, and fosters growth between himself and his surroundings.
