Valerie Jenkins, working at CE since 2001, brings joy to our studio every day. She is a keen observer and an affectionate friend. Below are her comments on a few of her favorite artworks.
(1) On her preferred subject matter: "I pick out what I want to draw. Then I give them a name; people are supposed to have names. Do animals have names? Those animals in the jungle will make a meal out of you! You didn’t even hurt them, and they’ll hurt you. You didn’t do nothing wrong to them! And they kill us for nothing! That’s not funny. I said that correct."
(2) “This is my favorite. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17. And a green background, like green pea seasoning soup. Had it at once and it was deeeeeeelicious.”
(3) "I don’t gamble. I do not go to Reno, and I do not go to gamble. I don’t want to get hurt. Just ignore that writing [at the bottom.]"
(4) Again on subject matter: "I draw all different kinds. Roses, animals, people, dancing girls, Paul, and Gilles, I don’t know. Plants and dancing girls and families and animals and angels and roosters. Giraffes, hippopotamus. I’m drawing a turtle now, a tortoise turtle."
(5) On working at Creativity Explored: "I come here, and I like this place. I talk to people, and they’re nice. They talk to me, and I talk to them back, and they’re sweet."
(6) "'Woman’s Day!?' Ugh! I’ll never call you that! That’s disgusting. I never say 'woman.' Or 'lady.' I say 'girl,' and 'candy.' Woman? That’s inappropriate. I’m telling you, you brighten my day, and I don’t call you 'woman,' I don’t call you 'lady,' I call you 'girl.'"
(7) "Yes, green, seedless grapes. And that’s sweet, and juicy, and green!"
