Advocate for increased funding for services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities

Posted on May 20, 2019
Recently, the California State Senate Budget Subcommittee #3 has voted on an 8% increase in services supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This budget proposal would help increase funding statewide for programs like Creativity Explored and eliminate restrictive laws enacted during economic regression that inhibit the growth of these programs to better service the community and support their employees.

Funding for services for individuals with IDD has fallen behind inflation and while a new study will affect future rates for providing service, this proposal helps our organization and community in the interim.

This budget proposal would increase funding statewide for programs like Creativity Explored. It would also eliminate outdated laws from periods of economic hardship that keep programs from growing to service people with disabilities and those who support them.

All of these outcomes will dramatically impact Creativity Explored's programs as well as the host of programs and centers that support our past, current, and future artists.

We need your help to ensure the California State Assembly enacts this measure!
Please contact your Assembly Member to express your support for the budget approved by State Senate Budget Subcommittee #3 that includes additional funding for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

If you are a California resident you can contact your Assembly Member to express your support. The vote to approve this proposal will take place May 21, 2019 -- please take a moment today to advocate for our artists and their families.

Dear Assembly Member ________,

I am writing/calling to express my support for the upcoming vote on May 21, 2019 to enact a budget proposal approved by Senate Budget Subcommittee #3 that includes an 8% increase in State funding for services and regional centers providing for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Funding for services for people with IDD has fallen far behind the pace of inflation; the lack of rate increases for service providers has inhibited the impact of these services in my community.
In the midst of the affordability crisis in California, the additional funding for programs and services supporting people with IDD is more important than ever and expresses a commitment by the state to work toward fully funding services for one of the most underrepresented and vulnerable communities in our state. I urge you to vote to approve this proposal and help support the work of institutions and services like Creativity Explored of San Francisco.

As a California resident and constituent of District ___ I am expressing my support for the budget proposal approved by Senate Budget Subcommittee #3 and ask that you continue to work to represent the needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in your district.

Thank you,
(Name), constituent of District ___
