Thank you to everyone who participated in Accident & Intent: Incorporating Chance in Artmaking on Saturday, June 11, 2016. In this four-hour class, CE2’s Studio Manager and Visual Arts Instructor Francis Kohler presented a brief overview of well-known artists who have utilized random techniques in the creation of art. Kohler also discussed the act of “taking chances," embracing accidents, and exploring various ideas around intentionally using chance as a conscious strategy in artmaking.
Participants split up into groups (or went solo) and engaged in creative activities that explicitly employ chance as a method in producing work. They explored Exquisite Corpses (writing and drawing versions), paper marbling, two stage transfer exercises, pencil ball drawing, and more.
See images below for the creative chances participants took in their approach to artmaking.
