Writing this letter to you several times a year prompts me to look at Creativity Explored activities that have occurred in recent months, and then to relate those events to our future. Since I wrote my last letter to you, several people who were important to CE have died, and their deaths prompted reflections of a different kind -- reflections on the contributions of those who are no longer connected with Creativity Explored -- people who have shared values, compassion and most of all a commitment to helping us continue our work. The legacy of the generous souls who have helped build this organization for twenty years is a solid and durable foundation -- strong enough to survive the threats posed by a poor economy. We will be able to continue our work and face future challenges because of the significant contributions of the many people who are involved with this organization today. Jack Moreci, a member artist who warmed the studio for 18 years with his smile and expressed love of music, passed last month at the age of 72. Jack did not communicate using words and visually conveyed the power music held over him to other people using paint and ink on paper. Charles Steele, committed and beloved CE board member and Vice President, passed this spring. Charles understood the importance of art as expression and was deeply committed to making it possible for Jack and other CE artists to communicate -- through the creation and sharing of visual art -- with the rest of the world. In memory of Charles, Creativity Explored has established the Charles Sean Steele Exhibition Fund. The fund will be used to form a traveling semi-permanent" collection of Creativity Explored artwork and to prepare and exhibit member works in our gallery in the future. The collection will also enable us to preserve works by artists like Jack who are with us in spirit.
