Outside the Studio

…and…ACTION!

Many of our artists are multi-disciplinary, and in addition to their visual work use music, writing and dance to augment and express their need to create. Now we can add drama to the list as CE artists Eva Jun and Ernesto Sosa have been pursuing acting at City College of San Francisco.

A small group from our studio went to the City College Mission Campus on Friday to watch the final performance of the class and to cheer on Jun and Sosa. After studying the films of Charlie Chaplin, the student-actors recreated key scenes without props or costume. Picking and smelling a flower, slapstick fight scenes, and a robbery involving roller skates, an escalator, some leaking casks of liquor, and the pleasantly oblivious hero who always emerges unscathed, or nearly so, were among the short vignettes performed that day.

The grand stages of the world and the studios of Hollywood are only a brief leap away. We only hope Eva and Ernesto remember us on their ascent to stardom!
