The Headlands Center for the Arts

With the rain letting up for a bit we decided to get out and about. The Headlands Center for the Arts in Marin was our destination. Of course we encountered that semi-permanent mass of fog that tumbles through the Golden Gate Bridge and into the bay, but witnessed a clear blue sky once we passed into Marin. After our arrival, we headed straight to the main building to check out The Archive Room where artifacts from the varied history (military, nature, renovations) of the Headlands Center for the Arts have been gathered together informally. Next stop was the Close Calls: 2008 exhibition on the third floor(!) We were on a tight schedule and didn’t really have time to adequately engage with each and every work on display, but we particularly enjoyed Banker White’s rainbow of beach trash and Liz Hickok’s similarly multi-hued neighborhood made from Jello. We made our way down to the ground floor and had lunch in the beautiful dining room. We were hoping to visit the lighthouse nearby, but time wasn’t on our side — so we headed back to the van and returned to San Francisco.
