CE Studio and Gallery to be renovated
Director’s Corner
If you have visited our San Francisco gallery recently, you may have noticed our work and exhibition spaces are starting to look different. Thanks to generous support from the Bothin Foundation, we are pleased to inform you that we are kicking off our 25th Anniversary year with a new look! Gallery and studio renovations are now underway and should be completed in the next few months.
It’s been seven years since the gallery opened and after numerous wall repairs, continual repainting and hanging of artwork, and massive foot traffic, we were sorely in need of a face lift! Renovations to the gallery and adjacent studio space include:
- Stripping and refinishing the studio floors;
- Framing and installing sheetrock to create smooth, uninterrupted wall surfaces to display art;
- Removing the built-in, non-functioning fireplace and replacing it with sheetrock;
- Upgrading the carpet-covered concrete floor surface in the gallery using hardwood flooring;
- Upgrading the gallery lighting;
- Installing a flush locked door to the storage closet that is attractive, user-friendly and secure;
- Replacing the front desk fixture with a multipurpose space that allows for more retail display;
- Adding movable walls within the gallery to make the space much more versatile;
- Installing a custom-designed donor recognition display;
- Widening the doorway connecting the studio and gallery; and,
- Replacing the gallery front entrance door.
As you can imagine, these are very exciting changes that will help Creativity Explored launch into its next quarter of a century with a cleaner, more professional looking gallery, and enhanced studio facilities for our artists, staff, and general public.
You can see some before and after floor pics here.
We sincerely thank the Bothin Foundation for their vision and support.

Hi Amy,
I know I'm commenting to the wrong post (regarding the newish website) but the post announcing the new site had four comments already, and this post had none. Like everything else with me, my reasons for commenting here are half selfish, half generous. Generous, because with no comments, this post seemed lonely . . . selfish, because my comment now stands alone!
Anyway, CE's new website is stunning in its size, depth, quaility, etc. Most importantly, it truly conveys the spirit of the place . . . and that 'aint easy to do.
I need to see you soon . . . we are trudging ahead with our studio in Santa Cruz . . . we will need to hire some teaching artists in the next few months . . . as the first ones, these hires will be critically important . . . they will play a huge role in establishing the culture of our place, and there is nothing quite as important as that.
Drop me a line, if you can, at andyis@myway.com and let me know a good time for me to visit you again in the next several weeks.
Amazingly good website!
