Thanh Diep’s film “Shining Into” to screen at the MadCat Film Festival

Studio Artists & Staff News

Thanh Diep’s short film, “Shining Into,” will be screened in the upcoming 2004 MadCat International Women’s Film Festival. “Shining Into,” originally a poem written by Thanh in 2002, was completed in late 2003. The short film, about one minute long, takes a look at society’s assumptions and prejudices around disability; it is open captioned and all artwork and text was created by Thanh, including the soundtrack, which was made using her touch talker communication device. The film is part of a program, “The Abilities We Have,” featuring films by and about people with disabilities that reveal perspectives on intimacy, professionalism and control.

MadCat is a highly acclaimed international festival that exhibits independent and experimental films and videos directed by women from around the globe. The Festival emphasizes work that is inventive and visionary. MadCat takes place this September 14 through October 3 at Artists Television Access, El Rio, and Yerba Buena in SF, and the Parkway Theater in Oakland.
