“Dance Hall Dayz” by Sara O’Sullivan
3245 16th Street (at Guerrero Street), San Francisco CA 94103
Come celebrate the creative spirit of the artists at Creativity Explored who grow and flourish in our historic venue.
From 1908-1926, when Creativity Explored was just a twinkle in San Francisco’s eye, 3245 16th Street was in full swing as Findlay’s Dance Hall. One of San Francisco’s trademark gathering places for raucous entertainment, Findlay’s employed dime-a-dance girls who twirled with San Franciscan men of every description.
In the spirit of unwavering optimism of the early 1900s, the artists, Board of Directors, and staff of Creativity Explored invite you to a Findlay’s revival with a modern twist. For one night only, the Gallery & Studio will be transformed into a glittering dance hall.
In honor of our building’s dance academy roots, we’re hosting a swing dance lesson from 7 pm to 7:30 pm for an additional $10 at the door. No partner needed and beginners are welcome!
Throughout the evening, trip the light fantastic in a ticketed taxi dance with a professional dancer, or simply do your own thing on the dance floor. Even if you have two left feet or prefer to sit on the sidelines, you’ll have a ball taking in all the evening’s groovers and shakers.
Dance lesson and ticketed taxi dancing by Nathan Dias and the Swing or Nothing Dancers. Special eye candy appearance by The Devil-Ettes, San Francisco’s go-go sweethearts! Live musical performance by New Maps of the West.
Wriggle into your favorite dance outfit. Whether it’s a vintage flapper getup or a mirror ball suit from the ‘80s, fanciful dance attire is strongly encouraged!
Bid on an array of spectacular CE artwork in a live auction hosted by Mistress of Ceremonies and writer/performer extraordinaire BETH LISICK. Preview live and silent auction artwork here. All auction proceeds benefit Creativity Explored’s programs!
Join your friends (and ghosts of dance halls past) at the ABSINTHE BAR courtesy of St. George Spirits and The Seltzer Sisters Bottling Co. Plus, you’ll also enjoy delicious Recchiuti chocolate treats and tasty hors d’oeuvres from Jeff Duerson Catering. And Pabst Blue Ribbon beer - one of America’s favorite beverages in the early 1990s!
