“Fired and Wired” is the result of our studio artists exploring new media — and looking at old, familiar media in new ways. Computer animations and drawings will be featured side by side with 3-D ceramic and plaster works.

Animated works produced in our studios represent a wide variety of interests, abilities, and techniques. Sequential images created by member artists using live action, pencil drawings, paintings, photo-collage, and assemblage are videotaped and — in some instances — digitally combined with other images in order to create the animations on view. The works excerpted for this reel were made between 2001 and 2003 and feature the work of over fifteen of our member artists. This videotape is available for purchase at the Creativity Explored Gallery.

For the past six months, Creativity Explored artists have been learning to draw using the computer as a tool. For many artists this was their first encounter with a computer on any level and, as a result, it opened up new worlds of creative expression. Artist Loren King, for example, took to drawing hundreds of fanciful portraits of his friends in outer space and depicted as monsters, a number of which are a highlight of “Fired and Wired.” Other computer artists include Kelly Clark, Steven Gin, Andrew Li, Lance Rivers, and Quintin Rodriquez.

Ceramics are certainly not new to Creativity Explored, but by displaying them in conjunction with computer art, their appeal is cast in a new light. The exhibited pieces are an overview of a year’s work by studio artists. Colorful wall-hung plaster work, paper maché animal sculptures, and mobiles will also be shown.
