A native of Northern California, Sara O’Sullivan was born in Sacramento in 1966. She soon moved to San Francisco and was a fixture in the Creativity Explored studio since 1991, until her death in September 2018.
O’Sullivan’s jubilant nature was expressed in her dynamic, energetic artwork. Known as the “Mayor of 16th Street” for her outgoing personality and a profusion of neighborhood friends, O’Sullivan was also a vital presence inside of the communal studio.
O’Sullivan was well versed in both drawing and painting media and was most recently creating multimedia work on wood panels. Her whimsical portraits, both human and animal, are recognizable by their characteristically lively lines and expressions.
In 2008, O’Sullivan was one of four artists chosen by Recchiuti Confections, one of our community arts partners, to adorn their Artisan Series of chocolates.
