A Night at Findlay’s Dance Hall

Benefit Event

Benefit Dance Party & Live and Silent Auction for Creativity Explored, featuring Beth Lisick as Mistress of Ceremonies, and Nathan Dias and the Swing or Nothing Dancers, an appearance by The Devil-Ettes, and a live musical performance

Saturday, June 6, 2009, 7:30 pm to 11:00 pm

7 pm: swing dance lessons (with additional $10 donation)
7:30 pm to 11 pm: dance party and live and silent auctions

From 1908—1926, the Victorian-era building that is currently the home of Creativity Explored was in full swing as Findlay’s Dance Hall. One of San Francisco’s trademark gathering places for raucous entertainment, Findlay’s employed dime-a-dance girls who danced with men of every description.

In the spirit of the unwavering optimism of the early 1900s, the Creativity Explored artists, Board of Directors, and staff are hosting a Findlay’s revival with a modern twist. On the evening of this benefit party, the gallery and studio will be transformed once again into a glittering dance hall to celebrate the creative spirit of the Creativity Explored artists who flourish in this historic venue.

The evening features music, dancing, dance lessons, and ticketed taxi dances by Nathan Dias and the Swing or Nothing Dancers; an appearance by The Devil-Ettes, San Francisco’s go-go sweethearts; a live musical performance by The Gomorran Social Aid & Pleasure Club, and food and drink served all night long. Beth Lisick, writer-performer extraordinaire, is the evening’s Mistress of Ceremonies and the auctioneer of artworks by Creativity Explored artists. There is also a silent auction of additional art and luxury items.
