Indulge in a Holiday Feast for the eyes!

When you’re visiting Union Square this season, tour the Kiosk Museum to enjoy five courses of Creativity Explored artwork. The Parisian style kiosks sprinkled along downtown sidewalks have been transformed into mini-museum displays that will feature scrumptious CE artwork.

From imaginative ceramic cupcakes to digital drawings of favorite foods, Holiday Feast is an eclectic collection of culinary-inspired artwork by Andrew Bixler, Camille Holvoet, Jesus Huezo, Hector Lopez, Quintin Rodriguez, Yukari Sakura, and Miyuki Tsurukawa. Whether you’re shopping Union Square for holiday gifts or skating the ice rink, take a walk around the plaza and treat yourself to a sampling of CE art!

Check out the Mobile Map of the Kiosk Museum or refer to the guide below for all five locations:

About the Kiosk Museum:

Community Arts International has been developing museum exhibitions in unexpected venues for over thirty years. They brought the concept of popular arts to museums, starting at The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco where they exhibited disposable Pop Art, including Andy Warhol paper dresses and Peter Max bed sheets. In collaboration with HOK and JCDecaux , they now bring art to the streets of San Francisco by converting the unused newsstand kiosks into Kiosk Museums.

As we wander the city, standing at a bus stop or waiting in line, we invariably look to our mobile devices for distraction. But anywhere one looks–in shop windows, restaurant counters, stacked in the corner of a room–there are aesthetic vignettes to enjoy. The goal of the Kiosk Museum project is to capture and contextualize these moments, creating a museum experience in these repurposed diminutive urban spaces that never close.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade by Daniel Green, 2018, mixed media on cardboard, 19.75 x 26 inches

We are excited to announce that seven works by Daniel Green will be included in 140 Characters at Root Division.

Curated by Lauren Etchells and Margaret Timbrell, 140 Characters examines the role of text-based art within contemporary society and its relationship to continually changing technologies and forms of communication. Text-based art is inherently in contrast between the explicit and the ambiguous; text conveys specific ideas while the ambiguity of language often leaves itself open to interpretation.

Various social media platforms allow participants to craft personal brands and find 24-hour audiences, which significantly affect the way we choose to communicate and take in information. This group exhibition questions how new technologies and various social media influence creative production, as well as highlight the ways in which we connect and communicate with one another. The exhibition will feature 20 artists with a range of mediums and disciplines.

Participating artists include: Anh Bui, Julia Chamberlain, Jamee Crusan, Rodney Ewing, Ashley Fitzpatrick, Theresa Giammattei, Daniel Green, Porpentine Heartscape, Maya Kabat, John Lindsey, Shirin Makaremi, Jenna Meacham, Avital Meshi, Guo Mong, Rebecca Ora, Blanca Estela Rodríguez, Brian Singer, Sayaka Suzuki, Christopher Taylo, and Jake Weigel
