Untitled (People Sitting in Tree) by Gerald Wiggins, © 2014 Creativity Explored Licensing, LLC, digital drawing on Wacom tablet

We are proud to announce Everything is Quiet, the first solo exhibition of work by Gerald Wiggins.

Gerald Wiggins' (b. 1968) depictions of human figures, animal life, and fantastical creatures are stunningly accomplished. Working with colored pencil, marker, graphite, and watercolor, as with digital printmaking software, Wiggins draws with a precise and controlled line, carefully coloring to convey detail.

Occasionally, key portions of a figure or natural element are left unfinished, or isolated parts are collected together in a single piece; these techniques add visual playfulness to his style. “I like the feeling of making something in your head that doesn’t exist," Wiggins says, "to make it real.” Wiggins also creates ceramic sculptures, from frightening vampiric characters to a rotating cast of life-like city dwellers he calls "the crew." This exhibition features a wide range of his most recent work and host of ceramic figures from all walks of life.

Wiggins joined the Creativity Explored studio in 2008. He co-curated Shoerageous in 2014, an exhibition featuring shoes in all colors, shapes, and sizes. Learn more about Wiggins in this video, which debuted at the annual fundraising gala, Art Changes Lives 2017.

Frida on White Bench by Nickolas Muray, 1939, digital pigment print on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper, 14.75 x 10 inches

We're thrilled to announce that a portrait by Selene Perez will be included in World of Frida

This summer the Bedford Gallery celebrates the culture, style, and persona of visionary painter Frida Kahlo, an artist who continues to inspire with her story of love, adventure, and pain. The World of Frida weaves juried and invitational shows that reference the artist with a national, traveling photography exhibit titled Frida Kahlo: Through the Lens of Nickolas Muray that makes a stop in Walnut Creek after traveling across North America. Hungarian-born Muray—who met Kahlo in a chance encounter in Mexico in 1931 and became her lover and friend—shot some of the most iconic color and black and white images of the artist that exist. This exhibition is organized by the Nickolas Muray Photo Archives and is circulated through GuestCurator Traveling Exhibitions.

Artwork included in the juried and invitational exhibitions feature Frida Kahlo as the subject as well as artworks inspired by her life and art, including themes of Frida’s garden, Mexican culture and fashion, vibrant colors, surrealism, and more. The juried exhibition includes nearly 150 artworks selected by jurors Lisa Congdon, fine artist, illustrator, and author; and Rebecca Gomez, Curator of Exhibitions and Programs at the Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin, TX.

When visiting Bedford Gallery, be sure to keep an eye out for the portrait by Selene Perez
