About stARTup Small Works

stARTup Small Works is a "tabletop" style art fair in an industrial warehouse setting for select contemporary artists to show small-scale works ranging from sculptures, paintings, and drawings, to prints and ceramics.

Its core mission is to provide artists with direct access to the art world, and an exhibition venue populated by dealers, curators, collectors, and consultants--all of whom are coming to San Francisco to discover and buy art from some of the best independent artists working today.

stARTup has become a destination event, attracting artists, art industry leaders, and art collectors from across the U.S. and as far away as Mexico, China, Europe, and South America. Our unwavering mission to support creative and professional success for independent artists makes us a beacon for starting and seasoned collectors who seek out unique experiences and original art work.

Celebrate today’s significant emerging talent and leading independent artists in San Francisco's trendy Dogpatch neighborhood. 1599 Tennessee Street is accessible from 280 freeway, the 3rd street Muni line, and within walking distance of Minnesota Street Project, McEvoy Foundation for the Arts, and the Museum of Craft and Design.

With 2,500 square feet of original art in an industrial space, visitors can connect directly with artists and take home some of the best art in the Bay Area today.

Monster Jacket by Christina Marie Fong, 2018, permanent and fabric marker on denim jacket

Join us for the opening reception and fashion show for Fabulate!, our new fashion-themed group exhibition.

Following a collaboration with Commes Des Garçons in 2013-14, Creativity Explored returns to the runway with Fabulate!, a group fashion exhibition of raw couture designed with repurposed and deconstructed materials.

Inspired by the innate desire to express oneself through dress, over 50 artists transformed fabric, clothing, and accessories using paint, embroidery, and fiber art into one-of-a-kind statement pieces ready for the street or runway.

The collection includes vibrant hand-painted gowns with abstract patterns, jackets adorned with movie monsters and celebrity portraits, and stylishly upcycled street fashion accessories. The exhibition will also include traditional 2-D artwork inspired by fashion editorial spreads and items of clothing.

Many garments were produced in partnership with the City College of San Francisco Surface Design Class, that has been taking place at the CE studio since 1988.

The curators extend a special thanks to City College of San Francisco!

One of the many products CE artists transformed at the 2017 event.

Join us at the Herman Miller Showroom for a one-of-a-kind marketplace event benefitting Creativity Explored.

This is the second annual partnership event at the Herman Miller Showroom, which began in 2017 as a way to pair design classics with new contemporary work by CE artists. The concept behind the event originated out of the partnerships between Creativity Explored, Herman Miller, CRI (Coordinated Resources, Inc.), Design Within Reach Contract, Maharam, Kay Chesterfield, Cushion Works, and PLOW Architecture and Design.

Celebrating the nexus of design and visual arts, the event will offer the public the chance to purchase designer items adorned with artwork by CE artists and a ton of original art!

Creativity Explored will be launching a set of new enamel pins featuring floral silhouettes by Elana Cooper. The first 50 guests in attendance will receive an exclusive limited-edition floral pin from the upcoming collection, made just for the event.

The event will include live painting by Pablo Calderon, chocolate by Recchiuti Confections featuring CE artwork, live music and cocktails.

Recchiuti Confections

Location
One Ferry Building, Shop #30

Recchiuti Confections and Creativity Explored are hosting a Jamboree on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Recchiuti’s Ferry Building location (One Ferry Building, Shop #30) in honor of the new truffle collection featuring artist Kate Thompson's musician designs.

Join Michael Recchiuti and artist Kate Thompson to celebrate the newly released Musical Jamboree, a limited-edition chocolate collection by Recchiuti Confections.

For this chocolate series, Thompson drew some of her favorite musicians including a trumpet player, percussionist, guitarist, and even a tambourinist! Perhaps Thompson was also inspired by Michael Recchiuti himself, who in addition to being a talented chocolatier is also a trained musician. Don't miss this indulgent pairing of art, chocolate, and rhythm!

Original artworks and imagery by Thompson will also be on view at Recchiuti Confections in the San Francisco Ferry Building Marketplace.

If you can't attend the Jamboree, the signature burnt caramel truffles emblazoned with Thompson’s illustrations are available for purchase online and in Recchiuti retail locations for $23, with a portion of all proceeds directly benefiting Creativity Explored!
