Passersby the Creativity Explored gallery will now enjoy our rotating mural project, launched this month with a work by artist Kate Thompson.
The mural space, just outside the gallery entrance, will host work by a new Creativity Explored artist every three or four months.
Thompson says, “I like that it’s outside. It was a fun project.” The feedback she’s received has been glowing: “People are saying, ‘I like it!’ and Wonderful piece!’ and ‘Beautiful!’” Thompson reported. She remarked that creating the piece required her to use dark colors and go over the lines multiple times so that the piece would stand up to the elements.
Studio Director Paul Moshammer said that the idea of creating a mural space is one that the staff at Creativity Explored have kicked around for a long time. Looking forward, he imagines that not only will individual artists like Thompson create work to be mounted on the wall, but also that it could be a great opportunity for small groups of artists to collaborate and explore the idea of making art in a public space.
