This June during San Francisco Design Week, CE artist Gerald Wiggins and Visual Arts Instructor Gilles Combet participated in a panel discussion hosted by In/Visible Talks at our Sixteenth Street studio.
Artists, designers, and professionals gathered in the studio to enjoy a lively discussion about artistic inspiration and process, led by Dava Guthmiller, Cofounder of In/Visible Talks.
Local creative director, designer and Cofounder of In/Visible Talks, Arianna Orland, participated on the panel, speaking to her unique process and the style of printmaking behind Paper Jam Press.
Gerald Wiggins, CE artist since 2008, answered the big question, what are his inspirations, by speaking to his keen observations of the city around him: “From watching people. From walking here [CE studio}. I get off bus, see people—sometimes not-nice stuff, sometimes nice stuff.”
Gilles Combet, who works with Wiggins regularly in the studio, had to say of Wiggins's process, “Gerald has a way of working. It’s so exquisite, so detailed. All the solids [in his digital work] are lines, not fill. He is so detailed, so completely into the work. Also so positive. Look at his animals; there’s so much tenderness.”
After the Q & A, guests perused a mini-exhibition of work created from the Bay Area Creative Studios Spring Cleaning Art Materials Drive that took place during the stARTup Art Fair this past April, as part of our ongoing cultural partnership with In/Visible Talks. The display included digital prints by Gerald Wiggins that were made with a printer that was donated during the drive.
We at Creativity Explored are looking forward to many more discussions about art and the artmaking process with our friends at In/Visible Talks. You can read more about the panel discussion on the In/Visible Talks blog.
Be sure not to miss new work by Gerald Wiggins in his first upcoming solo exhibition at the CE Gallery, Everything Is Quiet. Join us for the opening reception on Thursday, July 19th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Creativity Explored gallery. For more details about the opening reception, click here.
