FRIENDSHIP and ROMANCE at Creativity Explored

Posted on February 22, 2013

We had a packed house on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the release of Beth Lisick's new zine series, Tell You What, featuring the first two editions, FRIENDSHIP and ROMANCE. And with Valentine's Day just around the corner, the heartwarming and hilarious stories of romance and friendship Lisick told were the perfect fit.

Guests were greeted by a table spread with giant cookies, frosting, and sprinkles. Everyone was invited to write about someone or something they love and post it on our Post-It Wall of Love. Soon all the chairs filled up and many people stood in the back, hovering near the cookie table (you thought we wouldn't notice!)

Lisick was accompanied by her friend Tom Heyman on the steel guitar, adding a dreamy soundtrack to the sage love advice from CE artists. We turned the tables on the audience and asked individuals for their best love advice. The winner was Zena with "Be friends first." She received a $50 gift certificate for CE art that she immediately spent!

Adam Savage of Mythbusters brought us back to our painfully awkward teenage years with a story of his first kiss told with his trademark charm and humor. The adults were laughing, the babies were preoccupied with sprinkles, and the kids seemed to be taking mental notes. (If you couldn't make it to the event, catch a clip of Savage's story on this Youtube link.)

After the readings, the crowd broke. There was a lot of browsing and chatting and eating of delicious Recchiuti Confections chocolates featuring James Miles' bicycle artwork. Visitors milled about the gallery and studio while Lisick caught up with old friends and signed zines.

Overall, the release was a rousing success. We can't wait for Lisick's next variety/signing event in June! (Future releases include HOME and FOOD in April, and FASHION and EXERCISE in June.)
