Artist in Residence (AiR), Joe McGovern first met Camille Holvoet during the pottery workshop he conducted last summer. In the workshop, Joe and Camille worked one-on-one to create a cake, a plate, and a large clay portait of her friend, Dr. Pierce.
When Joe first started his residency in January, Camille immediately wanted to continue working on the pieces she created with him. Starting with painting one of Camille's signature cakes translated into clay, Joe and Camille then took on the larger challenge of painting the portrait head of Dr. Pierce.
Now that the head is fully painted, they are brainstorming ways to make the head mobile. One idea is to put the head on a turntable that plays a record of either music or sound causing the head to sing and spin. Part of the process is a trip to Thirft Town to search for the perfect record.
While their first experience working together last summer was as Camille put it "frustrating", joining forces again several months later, they have established a rapport that makes the collaborative process engaging and fun.
