Valerie Jenkins
b. 1957, San Francisco ∙ CE artist since 2001
Valerie Jenkins works predominantly with watercolors, ink, and colored pencils and often tells playful stories about her subject through captions. On what she likes to draw, she says, "I draw all different kinds. Roses, animals, people, dancing girls, [teaching artists] Paul and Gilles, I don’t know. Plants and dancing girls and families and animals and angels and roosters. Giraffes, hippopotamus."⠀
An animated and joyful spirit, Jenkins loves to sing and sometimes speaks in the form of poetry. This lyrical quality translates to the dynamic lines of her drawings. Jenkins is sure to include each and every detail in her stories, whether telling you about her breakfast or a drawing a family of ducks riding skateboards. In the studio, Jenkins always offers up the best Friday afternoon advice, “Have a good time weekend!”
