Kathy Wen was born in 1985. She joined the artists working at Creativity Explored in 2008.
Her enthusiasm and self-assurance have made her many friends here whom she is always eager to show her latest work.
Wen’s graphite drawings of animals are spare and have a confident lightness of touch that lends poise to their stylized silhouettes. The creature’s body is then delicately hatched with figures that have a typographical value: Ss, Os, commas, colons, hyphens, etc, which give the surface a verbal interplay with its visuals. These animals are typically alone in the frame, but recently she has begun integrating her bestiary into a landscape that is meticulously patterned and embellished with layers of watercolor.
