Creativity Explored

Kathy Wen

Kathy Wen (b. 1985) joined the Creativity Explored studio in 2008. Wen has an infectious enthusiam. Her graphite drawings and watercolors of animals and landscapes are spare resulting in very stylized silhouettes. Each artwork is meticulously patterned and embellished with layers of color.

Wen’s graphite drawings of animals are spare and have a confident lightness of touch that lends poise to their stylized silhouettes. The creature’s body is then delicately hatched with figures that have a typographical value: Ss, Os, commas, colons, hyphens, etc, which give the surface a verbal interplay with its visuals. These animals are typically alone in the frame, but recently she has begun integrating her bestiary into a landscape that is meticulously patterned and embellished with layers of watercolor.

Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions at Creativity Explored.
