Badia Forbes (b. 1987, Boston, MA) took her artistic inspiration from the lives around her: her family, her guardian, and her cat. Relationships were the key to her process, shown by Forbes’ accomplished portraiture. All of her work has the painterly qualities of a controlled but expressive brushwork and palette. Her figures are pre-portioned precisely, yet given moments of unique expressiveness, such as an elongated neck or head tilted at a radical angle. Forbes worked in the Creativity Explored studio from 2009 until she passed away in 2015.
Forbes was often overheard reading aloud the horoscopes of everyone nearby, and was a natural and enthusiastic member of the Friday dance class held in the studio. In fact, the bustling CE studio atmosphere helped Forbes get “nice and relaxed” and "tuned-in" to the human activity surrounding her. This interaction of personalities was felt in the honest and loving style of her painting.
