Walter Kresnik

Walter Kresnik was born in 1957 in Ontario, Canada. He has been an artist at Creativity Explored since 2005.

Kresnik is very accomplished with many drawing media, preferring to work with colored pencils because their forgiving nature allows this methodical artist to erase and rework his pieces. He has an instinctive sense of line and is able to convey the physical characteristics and personality of a subject with very few marks of the pencil. Kresnik prefers to draw from photographs and often adds concise captions to his works. Of late, Kresnik has expanded his practice, in both method and content, to include beautifully detailed pen and ink portraits of famous artists, composers, and pop culture icons. Additionally, he often accompanies the portrait with a delicate rendering of an architectural landmark from the subject’s home country.

One of Kresnik’s drawings was chosen to grace the first T-shirt issued by Creativity Explored for the 2006 exhibition season. According to Kresnik, creating art is “calming and relaxing”. This feeling of peace carries over to the viewer of any of his quietly composed landscapes or portraits.
