Hung Kei Shiu

Hung Kei Shiu

Hung Kei Shiu was born in 1964 and was one of the first artists at Creativity Explored. After pursuing other activities, he re-joined Creativity Explored in 2006.

Shiu transforms specific objects and still life into abstractions, producing a composition of simplified geometric shapes. He enjoys using a variety of colors, often filling shapes with dense multi-colored rectangles that almost resemble quilt patterns.

Shiu’s affinity for pattern-making also manifests itself in his interpretations of single objects. Shiu often repeats one shape, but subtly alters it in size and color to create a deep sense of space. His natural ability at layering paint has allowed him to create large scale abstractions on a variety of surfaces and with different color palettes, showing a pronounced artistic versatility.
