Hiroshi Onodera was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1967 and moved to San Francisco at age six. He was an artist in the Creativity Explored studio from 2003 through 2007.
Onodera’s sweet temperament and calm nature was reflected in his quiet compositions of muted colors and delicate brushstrokes. Typically working in ink and watercolor, Onodera painted iconic portraits, images of food, and animals, centered in the picture plane with simple washes of color in the background. In an uncomplicated manner and with few lines, he was able to capture the essence of his subjects.
When not making artwork, Onodera was an avid fisherman and crabber. His subjects were often inspired by his knowledge of the sport, as well as his memories of Japan.
