Douglas Sheran was born in California in 1941.
Sheran has periods when he is a prolific artist, creating many pieces of art in a week, the subject matter typically figures or animals. He enjoys working in pencil, ink, pastels, acrylics, watercolors, and ceramics. He makes a banjo type noise or song throughout the day while working. His song has been captured in an animated work that combines his ink drawings with his melodic hum. Sheran’s drawings capture the strength and essence of the subject rather than the minute detail. He is able to employ a few lyrical lines to convey form and movement.
Sheran lives in a group home in San Francisco. He is a quiet person who spends hours perusing books and magazines. Sheran is fascinated by magnets and spends time testing a magnet’s effect on tools, bottle caps, wires and metal table legs. Movement and tension are also experimented with using string, wire and tennis balls. These experiments are conducted in the art studio during his breaks from making art.
