Charles “Pancho” Cruz

A true Northern Californian, Pancho Cruz was born in Sonoma in 1946 and has been working at Creativity Explored since the early nineties.

A joyful and eager artist, Cruz likes using a variety of media and doesn’t miss an opportunity to try something new with a visiting artist. He is very skilled at depicting movement and lending subtlety to his work. His large-scale renderings of insects are often reminiscent of impressionist paintings, while his portraiture takes its intensity from his chaotic, but controlled, line, which captures what is essential in his subject.

Cruz proudly identifies himself as a Chicano artist. He also has a strong interest in other cultures and traditions, particularly that of Japan.
