Ana Maria Vidalon was born in 1957 in Peru. She has been working at Creativity Explored since 1993.
A typical work by Vidalon is a graphically strong composition of layers of tiny faces. Her process is one of compulsive repetition, and this working rhythm is evident in each final complete piece. For many years, Vidalon filled the entire picture plane with these miniscule heads, but recently the forms have become slightly larger and she is more discriminating with the use of paper space. Vidalon almost exclusively uses black and silver markers in her artwork. She does vary the surfaces she works on however, ranging from paper to Plexiglas.
Her practice grew exponentially in 2009 with the introduction of printmaking. A completely new iconography grew from this process. Using sheet music as their basis, Vidalon’s prints convey an abstract typographical sense of musical notation, combined with bold design and color. This idea was expanded into unique artist’s books wherein Vidalon uses ink to fill an existing musical score with her own complexly layered, non-representational markings. The books are then bound in a hand-printed cover of her own conception.
